KATY 5K AND PICNIC
The fundraising event includes a 5K run and walk and an inline skate course, as well as a short run for kids (dubbed the "point-5K"). Registered participants can attend the Katy Picnic, which will include food samples from 50 local restaurants. The Blenders band will perform. Proceeds will benefit trail-maintenance efforts of the Friends of the Katy Trail. Participation is limited to 5,000 runners (4,200 participated last year); advance registration is recommended. Nathans Famous International Hot Dog Contest
love this event and I challenge any of you big mouths out there to participate in the upcoming Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Championship that will take place at Sam’s Club in Plano on June 21 from 11:00am to 1:00pm. The competition has been happening in Coney Island since 1916 and last year’s champion, Joey Chestnut (what a great name), ate 66 dogs in 12 minutes. The pig out was televised on ESPN. I want a member of the SideDish/FrontBurner Nation to bring the Yellow Mustard Belt to Dallas. Let me hear from you if you are serious. In the meantime, sign up here. Target First Saturdays
At the Nasher Sculpture Center on the first Saturday of every month, parents can mentor children into appreciating art with a little help from the Nasher Sculpture Center. The kiddies will keep busy with an art activity, sculpture demos, story time and a scavenger hunt. There'll also be yoga for adults and little ones. But the best part is free admission. Addison Worldfest
Worldfest is the Town of Addison’s newest public event in spectacular Addison Circle Park. The festival is Saturday, October 25 from 12n-10p, it is being hosted in partnership with the non-profit DFW International Community Alliance (DFW Int'l) organization.
The festival guests will cheer at the Parade of Nations, dine on cuisine from around the world, play global games like Rugby and Bocce, enjoy the children’s workshops and International passport, shop in the International Marketplace, sip and learn at the International wine tasting tent, and enjoy dance and musical offerings representing our global diversity. Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park
Who's afraid of the big bad wolf eel? Some consider wolf eels to be among the ugliest sea creatures, and the Dallas Aquarium's breeding program has raised two of them. They went on display just a couple of days ago. Current aquarium highlights include a shark tank, sea horses, jellyfish, native Texas species, one very funky alligator snapping turtle with moss growing on its back, and many more exotic creatures.... And a visit costs less than $5.

Dallas Museum of Art: Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs
From October 8, 2008 to May 17, 2009 the Dallas engagement marks the first time King Tut's treasures will be seen in the Southwest region. The current exhibition includes an extensive array of more than 130 extraordinary artifacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun and other ancient Egyptian sites. The return of the exhibition to the United States will include a selection of artifacts that are new to the exhibit and have never before been seen outside of Eygpt.
